Calling all heroes big and small…. Have you thought about raising awareness for congenital heart defects (CHD) and fundraising for Heart Heroes but were not sure how or what to do? Read about this amazing fundraiser for some inspiration and ideas:
“What you do thunders so loudly in my ears I cannot hear what you say.”
–Ralph Waldo Emerson
After our second Making a Difference appearance on the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, 2LT Rebecca Van Beurden reached out to Heart Heroes about possibly holding a 5k run in support of Heart Heroes. Rebecca is an Army Officer with the 1-43 ADA Task Force Cobra, currently deployed to Bahrain. Rebecca has organized fundraisers with her unit while being deployed, such as Wounded Warriors Project. When they saw our story they wanted to take action and host a fundraiser in support of Heart Heroes. The mission of their fundraiser, “Heroes Helping Heroes,” was to raise awareness for congenital heart defects (CHD) while raising funds for Heart Heroes. They also worked towards increasing moral and emphasized unity within the Task Force Cobra unit to leave a lasting impression of what can be achieved during deployment.
A local vendor in Bahrain made T-shirts, water bottles and wristbands to sell during the event. They used social media to reach out to friends and family and asked for their help by making donations to support Heart Heroes. On October 18th , approximately 270 soldiers, sailors, marines, airman came together for Heart Heroes, each participant running in honor of a Heart Hero and Heart Angel. They also held a Best Superhero Pose contest on their Facebook page and the winner was given a Heroes Helping Heroes commemorative t-shirt. Through this fundraiser, Heroes Helping Heroes was able to raise over $2,920.00 to provide superhero capes to kids with CHD–accomplished while being deployed to Bahrain!! We are amazed by their commitment to our great nation as well as their commitment to helping others back in the states during their deployment.
Heart Heroes is so honored that Rebecca and her unit, 1-43 ADA Task Force Cobra, chose to fundraise for Heart Heroes! They are setting an example in their everyday lives. Their action speaks volumes and proves why they are not only leaders but Heroes; Heroes to heart families all over the world; Heroes for CHD awareness; and Heroes for all Heart Heroes everywhere. So it is with heartfelt appreciation that we at Heart Heroes SALUTE 1-43 ADA Task Force Cobra for their selfless dedication and support for Heart Heroes and the superhero heart kids they have helped, for raising awareness for CHD.
We thank Task Force Cobra for being TRUE HEREOS and for HAVING HEART!!
