To David & Grace, knowing their son is a Heart Hero means that each day is about family, friends, and faith. Brent is their daily dose of perspective and inspiration. Their five-month old Heart Hero, Brent Ethan, was born with Double Inlet Left Ventricle, l-GTA (corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries), Ventricle Septal Defect (VSD), Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), and Tricuspid Valve Straddling. Brent’s single ventricle defect, along with the other defects, have caused him to undergo a Pulmonary Band and PDA Ligation surgery in September 2014 and is currently recovering from another open-heart surgery, the Glenn procedure, on January 29, 2015!
“Brent has shown tremendous resiliency and strength despite being born premature and having a complex heart defect. He shows us everyday how strong the power of love actually is,” says David. “We are so thankful for the advancements in medical technology that have given our son a chance to live. We are also thankful for all the prayers and well wishes people from all around the world have sent his way.”
Brent’s open-heart surgery was just a few days ago and he is recuperating from the procedure right now, during CHD Awareness Month. It’s important to know that the Heart Hero Cape helps signify that having strength and being a “hero” is not necessarily about physical strength, but about being brave in the face of the unknown and having a positive outlook on life no matter what the circumstance.
