Heart Angel Hayden Liam was born in May 2014 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). He was a fighter from the beginning, going through both the Norwood and Glenn open-heart surgeries, as well as a G-tube placement, the Nissan surgery, a diaphragm placation surgery, and three heart catheterization procedures in his five short months of life. Hayden got his angel wings on December 19, 2014.
Having a Heart Hero in their lives was both the hardest and most wonderful thing to ever happen to Hayden’s parents. Life with Hayden was full of up and downs. Sometimes they would forget how severe his heart defect was. Having Hayden in their lives even for the short period they had him meant everything to Hayden’s parents. He taught them what it meant to live every day like it could be their last. He taught them how to be strong and to fight with every beat of their hearts.
“Having a Heart Hero in your life changes everything but for the better, even after all the struggles. Hayden is our hero.”
Even though he was so young, Hayden had such a strong personality. He was stubborn and had a little attitude on him that always had him fighting for what he wanted. The Heart Hero Cape has special meaning for Hayden’s parents. He is our hero for fighting as hard as he did every day of his life. Every hero deserves a cape. We always called him Robin or Hayden, the Boy Wonder. Now even more it’s a special memory for us of our Heart Hero and will be forever treasured.
Hayden’s life is celebrated and his memory will carry on. Shirts and bracelets were made to represent Hayden and raise awareness for congenital heart defects, specifically HLHS. Hayden’s family will celebrate his surgery dates with balloons and cake like the celebrations he would have enjoyed and deserved to have. They will use his Facebook to spread awareness and keep his memory alive forever. Follow Hayden’s legacy: www.facebook.com/haydenshope2014.

Wow!…reading this story really touched me as we have a son with the same heart defect. I just wanted to say that I believe children are a blessing from God. God bless you and your family.
