This little beauty is Isabella-Sophia – she is one and lives in Phoenix, Arizona. Isabella-Sophia was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV), Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), and Pulmonary Stenosis. Multiple diagnoses are not that uncommon among kids with CHD, and Isabella-Sophia is no exception. TGA means the pulmonary artery and aorta were switched within her heart (transposed). In addition, both great arteries (the pulmonary artery and aorta) were connected to the right ventricle (DORV), as well as having holes between her ventricles and atria (VSD and ASD) and a narrowing from the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery (stenosis), obstructing blood flow to the pulmonary artery (pulmonary stenosis). Isabella-sophia underwent the Rastelli Procedure on November 18, 2014 to repair her heart defects.
“Having a Heart Hero in our family is such a blessing, because she teaches us what shrength really is. She has proven from the day she was born that she is not defined by her CHD; rather, she is a hero because of it. She shows us what it means to overcome any obstacle and how to keep our heads held high. She is resilient and strong. Courageous and brave. And we strive to be more like our Heart Hero every single day.”
Isabella-Sophia is very tenacious. Nothing stops her and nothing gets in her way. She is spunky and determined. She is full of energy and life. Isabella-Sophia is silly and fun. All of this has helped her to overcome her CHD.
The power of the Heart Hero Cape means strength, resilience, heroism, and on the days when the heroes aren’t feeling so heroic, it means comfort and support… to show them who they are and what they can do and what they have overcome!
Isabella-Sophia hasn’t had the chance to celebrate her heartiversary yet, since she just had her OHS this past November. On her surgery day, the family made a party of it, though!! Isabella-Sophia loves the Taylor Swift song “Shake It Off” and everyone was dancing and singing to that song for their Heart Hero. She loved every minute of it- they just laughed and were silly together. It’s the perfect way to honor your Heart Hero and celebrate their heartiversary date.
