“Bionic Lydia” is a 3-year old Heart Hero from Bellevue, Nebraska. Ever since her premature birth at 30 weeks gestation, weighing 3 lbs., 4 oz., her life has been nothing short of miraculous. Lydia has Congenital Complete Atrioventricular Block (3rd Degree Heart Block). Heart Block occurs when there is a delay in the conduction of electrical nerve impulses that regulate the rhythmic pumping action of the heart. Lydia has undergone three surgeries and is 100% pacemaker dependent.
Lydia is joyous, brave, and strong, and those qualities have helped her to overcome her CHD. She truly enjoys every day and has an infectious joyous spirit. Her strength and bravery help her endure all of her doctors’ appointments and procedures and she never complains about all she has to go through. She is an amazing little girl!
The Heart Hero Cape turns Lydia into “Bionic Lydia”, the Superhero! It allows her to feel special and powerful instead of crippled by her CHD. “Lydia has taught us so much about life, it is hard to put into words. She has taught us the meaning of gratitude and to be thankful for every day we have. We appreciate the little, simple things in life so much more now and we are so grateful for her life everyday. We are truly blessed,” says Alaina, Lydia’s mother.
Lydia and her family celebrate Lydia’s “pacerversary” each year with a special dinner and dessert every year. Any chance to celebrate Lydia’s life, they cherish.
