Destany Jones, mother of three, including her four-year-old Heart Hero, Madison, has started a petition for a national proclamation officially declaring February 7-14 as Congenital Heart Defects Awareness Week. The petition is making progress, currently standing at about 8,900 signatures, but it’s not enough. More than 90,000 signatures are still needed in order to receive an official response from the White House – to get CHD Awareness on the national stage!
The drive behind this petition is my Heart Hero and all the other CHD warriors and angels. Prior to it happening to my child, I had no knowledge of congenital heart defects. I was unaware of this life, the ups and downs, the ongoing medical care, the financial burdens, the stress and constant worry… It’s a large task, but I have faith we will accomplish it. — Destany Jones, petitioner.
We need your help. Please take just a moment to sign this petition. We need every signature we can get to make this happen for our children. CHD deserves a voice at the national level and this is the year to make it happen!!
This is the third year Destiny has petitioned the White House to get national awareness for Congenital Heart Defects. Last year, fewer than 1,000 signatures were obtained during the month-long effort, but the required threshold for the petition was only 5,000 signatures. Think about that- we’ve already exceeded that number this year, but there is still so far to go!!
Let’s make 2015 the year that #CHDAwareness finds itself on the national platform. We challenge you to help #OneHeart this year and sign this petition. Keep it going and challenge your friends to help #OneHeart by raising awareness for CHD and adding their name. We are so thankful for Destany and her continued efforts in raising awareness for Congenital Heart Defects. Keep it going! Sign, share, and encourage people to help.
Sign the petition here – thank you for helping to raise awareness for the 40,000 babies who will be affected by this disease in 2015!
